What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems is a  transformative, evidence-based model of understanding how we function. It is used by psychotherapists, coaches, teachers, health professionals, communication specialists and others across the board. Its core belief is that the mind is naturally multiple.  All parts of us, contain valuable qualities and our core essence of us, called Self, knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole. In IFS all parts are welcome.

Through a series of questions, the practitioner will guide you to become aware of your thoughts and sensations and to explore what parts of you are present. One of the main goals of IFS is to help you connect to your inner leadership and so Your Self, who is not a part, can bring healing to the parts of you that need it.

Sessions can be 60, 75 or 90mins long, depending on what you choose and what feels like a best match to your system.

No, we don’t work with private insurance providers. We can, however, provide an invoice on request, if needed.

That depends entirely on your  system’s needs. Based on our experience, weekly sessions for a period of a three months can support the client in creating significant changes. Some choose shorter and less frequent periods, while others use IFS as a long term tool, which becomes their life philosophy and an integral part of their self-care protocol. There is no single answer to this question.

Yes, what you share with your IFS practitioner is confidential.

The first IFS session is aimed at getting to know your IFS practitioner and their style of working, and for your IFS practitioner to get to know you. If you feel that you are a good match, you can decide on continuing to work together. However, there is no obligation to do so, if you don’t feel you are a good fit for each other.

Although this question is part of the FAQs, it’s not so straightforward to get a clear answer. The reason being, it will entirely depend on your circumstances and your internal system.
